Drowning by Numbers [assignment #1]

So... I figured that I would document my various "lessons" as the semester goes on for FALL 2009.

"The [ART] of the movie poster - as told through a series of fonts"

Peter Greenaway one of the most [in my opinion] prolific and controversial directors of our time graces the eyes [+] ears of the students with one of his master pieces "DROWNING BY NUMBERS" [originally it was to be "The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover" [but I didn't want [2] much [2] soon!] ... so, I went with DROWNING BY NUMBERS [+] after seeing the "original" poster [not really hard to improve on] {lol} the FRENCH POSTER is beautiful, but is told with "visuals"... the assignment was as follows: "To [recreate] the "DROWNING BY NUMBERS" movie poster using ONLY typography."{{{ FONT[s] ONLY }}}!!! - and here is the other [restriction/snag] you can't use numbers! =] {i'm evil right?} [lol]. They can create numbers using letter forms. To create the "appearance" of numbers. { the design collective TOMATO is SOOO known for this [example] use of letter-forms to create [boy boy boy] visual beauty! } [anyway] after viewing the Greenaway classic, they must emulate the power and vision of the film to the poster, [without stills or photographic visuals] ONLY TYPE! =] ... so we will see. I am excited to see the prospects. I am thinking that I would [also] love to participate and do MY version[s] of my assignments .. [but time, is not on my side :[ .. work work work.. but that shouldn't be an excuse] {right?} anyway.. it was a joy and a delight [+] I am SO excited for what is to come!! xo xo :el fano:

we were never being boring...

Pet Shop Boys Being Not Particularly Boring at Hammerstein Ballroom
From the VILLAGE VOICE

Pet Shop Boys
Hammerstein Ballroom
Tuesday, Sept. 1

Fans have come to expect certain things from a Pet Shop Boys show: Neil Tennant's dry but poignant vocals, Chris Lowe's concert-specific remixes of their classics, artsy visuals, experimental dancers, a few outfits, and, on a deeper level, communion. The first New York stop on the "Pandemonium" tour didn't disappoint on any of those fronts, kicking off with the high-gloss Italo-disco classic "Heart" as the duo emerged from a Pink Floyd-inspired "Wall" of white boxes, wearing translucent cubes on their heads. The next few songs were from their stately new album Yes, including the bouncy first single "Love, etc." and a wobbly medley of "Pandemonium" and the older "Can You Forgive Her?"

Throughout the night, '80s-style graffiti, Communist propaganda, black-and-white videos of the Boys themselves, and favela landscapes were projected onto the Wall, layers of which crumbled during "Go West" to accommodate dancers done up as Atari Olympians and "exploded" into dangling ornaments during the finale. Tennant's
voice sounded remarkably unweathered, Lowe's synth work was on point, and the playlist ran to 20-plus new and old songs in almost two hours, including a surprising acid-house mashup of club rarities "Two Divided by Zero" and "Why Don't We Live Together?"

But as I was fidgeting with my camera and chanting "Che Guevara and Debussy to a disco beat," I noticed something unexpected in the frame: a lot of balding heads. Some of us have been dancing to these songs for a quarter-century now. That combination of nostalgia and theatrics hit a catharsis during the final flurry of confetti and sing-alongs: After a melancholy, tuxedo-clad interlude, they picked up the tempo with "Jealousy" and "Suburbia," then sashayed south of the border with a riotous medley of "Se a Vida é," "Discoteca," "Domino Dancing," and even Coldplay's "Viva La Vida." The finale, "It's a Sin," climaxed in a burst of hard house beats, operatic strings, and giant bursts of glitter. During the encore, bits of it were still aloft and sparkling as the crowd sang "Being Boring" pretty much in its entirety. Reclaiming the mic, Tennant closed us out, inevitably, with the evergreen "West End Girls," 25 years old itself. The "Girls" and Boys may all be a bit longer in the tooth these days, but the bite is still plenty sharp.

It was an AMAZING and INCREDIBLE SHOW! [i didn't know i was going till the last moment] and it was just incredible! [a bit 2 short] but, I'll take as MANY MINUTES as I CAN GET with the PSB[s] as I CAN!! xo xo :el fano:

We will miss you Marat

This one[s] for my BFF!!! I know that she [and many others] will miss Marat for the rest of the US OPEN!! It was always a special treat to watch him play!! xo xo :el fano:

There(s) nothing quite like the "roar" of the 7am L-train Cougar... [ready to pounce at ANY given moment]. [Just before your heading to class] [lol]
Her look was as follows: A simple pink spaghetti strap "T" with the words ["S E X Y"] em(((blaze)))[on]ed right below the bosom. Pink sunglasses, Pink plastic handbag, Pink cell phone, Pink belt [can't see in the pic -but it was quite sparkly] ... her choice of "jean[s]" was that of a "painted-on" so tight [NOTHING] was left to the imagination kinda jean. =} and then, there was her song.
